Armstrong Soundscape Baffles

High-performance fiberglass baffles and clouds from Armstrong's commercial ceiling division.

What Is Armstrong Soundscape?

Soundscape is Armstrong's line of shaped acoustical baffles and clouds designed for open-ceiling environments. They're made from high-density fiberglass wrapped in a paintable fleece or fabric finish. The product line includes flat baffles, curved baffles, clouds (horizontal panels), and specialty shapes.

Armstrong designed Soundscape specifically for spaces where a traditional lay-in ceiling isn't possible or desired. Open ceilings with exposed structure, high-bay spaces, atriums — these are where Soundscape lives.

Product Types

  • Soundscape Blades — Flat vertical baffles. The simplest and most common configuration. Available in various heights and lengths.
  • Soundscape Shapes — Curved, angled, and custom-profile baffles. Adds visual interest beyond straight vertical panels.
  • Soundscape Clouds — Horizontal panels that float below the ceiling. Rectangle, square, or custom shapes. Used alone or combined with baffles.
  • Soundscape Fins — Thinner vertical elements for tighter spacing and a more delicate look.

Commercial Applications

  • Schools — Cafeterias, gymnasiums, and multi-purpose rooms with high ceilings and too much echo.
  • Healthcare — Waiting rooms and common areas in hospitals and clinics with open ceilings.
  • Office buildings — Open-plan offices, break rooms, and collaboration spaces with exposed ceilings.
  • Retail — Big-box stores and showrooms where the ceiling is part of the design.
  • Recreation — Community centers, pools, and recreation facilities with high-volume noise issues.

Benefits

  • High absorption: NRC up to 1.15 (both sides exposed). Some of the highest-performing baffles on the market.
  • Lightweight: Fiberglass core keeps weight low. Easier to hang and less structural demand than metal or wood.
  • Paintable: The fleece surface can be factory-painted in any color. Armstrong offers standard and custom colors.
  • Shapes and curves: Unlike flat-only PET baffles, Soundscape can be curved, tapered, or formed into custom profiles.
  • Armstrong ecosystem: Integrates with Armstrong's other ceiling products, hardware, and support. One manufacturer, one warranty.
  • Quick lead times: Armstrong has the production capacity to turn these around faster than many specialty manufacturers.

Installation

Soundscape baffles hang from aircraft cable or the Armstrong Drywall Grid System (DGS). Cable drops attach to the structure above and connect to mounting hardware on the top of each baffle. Armstrong provides a hanging kit with each order.

Clouds mount on the same cable system but in a horizontal orientation. Four cables per cloud, one at each corner. We level each cloud individually using adjustable cable grips.

The installation is straightforward compared to wood or metal baffles. The panels are light enough for one person to handle, and the cable hardware is simple. A typical school cafeteria (3,000–5,000 sq ft) takes 2-3 days.
