Felt Wall Panels
Design-forward acoustical panels made from recycled PET or natural wool felt.
What Are Felt Wall Panels?
Felt wall panels are dense, fiber-based panels used for sound absorption and visual design. They're made from either PET (recycled plastic bottles) or natural wool felt, pressed into sheets typically 9mm to 24mm thick. The material absorbs mid-to-high frequency sound while adding color and texture to walls.
These panels have become one of the most popular acoustical products in modern commercial design. Architects love them because they come in dozens of colors, can be cut into custom shapes, and work as both a functional acoustic treatment and a design element.
PET Felt vs. Wool Felt
PET felt is made from recycled polyester (plastic bottles). It's the more common choice for commercial work. Each panel contains roughly 50-60% recycled content. It's moisture-resistant, won't grow mold, and costs less than wool. Most of what we install is PET.
Wool felt is a premium option. It has a richer texture, natural odor absorption properties, and slightly better acoustic performance per thickness. It costs 2-3x more than PET and is typically spec'd on high-end projects where budget isn't the primary concern.
Commercial Applications
- Open offices — Felt panels on columns, walls, and dividers soak up the noise that bounces around open floor plans.
- Restaurants and cafes — Colored felt panels add visual warmth while taming the noise from hard surfaces (concrete, glass, tile).
- Hotel lobbies — Design flexibility. Cut into geometric patterns, brand logos, or simple rectangles in brand colors.
- Education — Durable, easy to clean, and available in bright colors that work in school environments.
- Co-working spaces — The go-to acoustic treatment for modern shared offices. Looks great on Instagram too.
Benefits
- Acoustic absorption: NRC 0.30–0.85 depending on thickness and mounting method. Thicker panels with air gap behind them perform best.
- Design flexibility: Available in 40+ standard colors. CNC-cuttable into any shape — hexagons, circles, waves, custom logos.
- Sustainability: PET panels are made from recycled bottles. Wool is a natural, renewable material. Both are recyclable.
- Durability: Won't dent, crack, or chip like drywall. Handles bumps from furniture and foot traffic.
- Low maintenance: Vacuum occasionally. Spot-clean with mild soap. No painting needed.
- Lightweight: Easy to mount. Adhesive or mechanical clips — no heavy structural support required.
Installation
Felt panels mount to walls using construction adhesive, Z-clips, or magnetic mounting systems. For adhesive installs, we apply contact cement or panel adhesive to the wall and back of the panel, let it tack up, then press into place. Clean and fast.
For removable installations (tenant spaces, future reconfiguration), we use Z-clip or Velcro systems. The panel hangs on the clip and can be removed without damaging the wall.
Custom shapes get CNC-cut at the shop before we bring them to site. We work from architect's drawings or can help design a layout if needed.
