Wall Panels for Hotels and Hospitality
Guest satisfaction in hotels correlates directly with acoustic comfort. Noise complaints are among the top reasons for negative reviews. Acoustic wall panels address the problem at the source — absorbing sound in public spaces and blocking transmission between private ones.
Hotel Applications
Ballrooms and Event Spaces
Hotel ballrooms host everything from weddings to corporate conferences. A DJ blasting music on Saturday night, a keynote presentation Monday morning. The acoustic requirements couldn't be more different. Wall panels help manage both scenarios — absorbing excess energy during loud events and controlling reverberation during speech-focused functions.
Fabric-wrapped panels on ballroom walls in 2" thickness provide NRC 0.95–1.05. Placed strategically on side walls and rear walls, they bring reverberation time into the 1.0–1.2 second range that works for both music and speech. When the dividing walls go up to split the ballroom, each section still has adequate wall treatment.
Guest Room Corridors
Hotel corridors transmit noise between rooms and from common areas. Luggage rolling on hard floors, guests talking, doors slamming — all of it carries down the corridor and through guest room doors. Acoustic panels on corridor walls absorb the reflected sound that would otherwise bounce between hard parallel surfaces. It's one of the simplest, most effective improvements a hotel can make.
Lobby and Reception
Hotel lobbies are large, open, and lined with hard materials — stone floors, glass walls, high ceilings. The acoustic environment can be harsh. Wall panels in reception areas and conversation nooks absorb sound and create zones where guests can talk comfortably. Check-in conversations stay between the guest and front desk staff, not broadcast across the lobby.
Meeting Rooms
Hotel meeting rooms need speech privacy between rooms and clear acoustics within. Wall panels serve both purposes — absorbing sound within the room (reducing reverberation and echo) and, when part of a properly designed wall assembly, contributing to sound isolation between adjacent meeting rooms. Corporate clients expect professional meeting environments. Acoustic treatment is part of that expectation.
Spa and Wellness Areas
Quiet is the product in spa environments. Acoustic wall panels in treatment rooms, relaxation lounges, and meditation spaces keep sound levels minimal. Fabric-wrapped panels in calming colors and textures reinforce the tranquil atmosphere.
Product Selection for Hospitality
- Fabric-wrapped panels: Most versatile. Thousands of fabric options to match any interior design scheme. Available in custom sizes and shapes. NRC 0.85–1.05.
- Stretch fabric systems: Seamless fabric over a track-and-infill system. Preferred for ballrooms and high-end spaces where a monolithic appearance matters. Can cover entire walls.
- Decorative acoustic panels: Panels with sculpted or patterned faces — dimensional designs that look like wall art but perform acoustically. Popular in boutique hotels.
- Wood slat panels: Real wood slats over an acoustic substrate. Natural, warm appearance for lobby areas and restaurants. NRC 0.50–0.70.
Working in Occupied Hotels
Hotels don't close. Guests are sleeping while we work. Wall panel installations in occupied hotels follow strict protocols: work during daytime hours in areas away from guest rooms, and after 10 PM, no noise-generating work anywhere near occupied floors. We phase work floor by floor or wing by wing, coordinating with hotel operations to avoid impacting guests.
In ballrooms and event spaces, we schedule around the event calendar. A typical ballroom panel installation can be completed during a 3-5 day window between events.
Brand Standards
Hotel brands (Marriott, Hilton, Hyatt, IHG) publish design standards that specify acoustic requirements for guest rooms, corridors, and public spaces. Wall panel selections must comply with brand-specific material, color, and performance requirements. We review the brand's PIP (Property Improvement Plan) or design guidelines before submitting products for approval.
